As a senior manager of product development at Hillshire Brands, Brenda Dismore solves problems.
“The solution may be a new innovation to solve a consumer’s unmet need or a way to help our plants run more efficiently,” she said. “This style of problem-solving takes a lot of knowledge and creativity. Pulling that information together with my colleagues and discovering solutions together is the fun part.”
Brenda said her position requires her to be creative and persistent while being able to make decisions and effectively lead a team. She believes these are skills that she gained at the University of Illinois.
“I firmly believe my involvement in the meats, livestock and meat animal judging programs created a foundation for acquiring these characteristics needed to be successful in my career,” she said. “I also benefited from the coursework and my interactions with faculty and graduate students in the meats laboratory. These individuals guided me through my college career and still mentor me today.”
