If you are not looking for a desk job, you might want to become a technical services director. Kevin DeHaan, a University of Illinois Department of Animal Sciences graduate, interacts with farmers and ranchers on location through his work with Merial IGENITY, a company that provides genetic profiles to help beef producers make breeding, managing and marketing decisions.
“The best part of my job is the opportunity to work with some of the best beef producers in the country and the world,” he said.
DeHaan provides technical expertise for the IGENITY business and establishes commercial relationships with customers, alliances and beef industry leaders. He also markets IGENITY DNA profiles to commercial ranches, feedlots and alliances.
Part of his job is to communicate IGENITY technical information to beef producers, branded beef programs, university and Extension personnel, nutritionists, veterinarians and others.
“It’s satisfying to know that I make a positive contribution to the beef cattle industry,” he said. “I help producers utilize our IGENITY profiles so they can do an even better job of producing beef for the public.”
This U of I graduate said he gained experience and an appreciation for the beef industry from the university’s livestock and meat judging teams.
“Through these teams, I established long-lasting friendships and contacts that greatly enhanced my personal and business life endeavors,” he said.
