April Faulkner recently graduated from the animal sciences in 2018 and has since been employed by the Champaign County Humane Society. Throughout the day, April works with the local community as a humane educator and investigator. Two components of her job are working with the public to raise awareness about animal shelters and animals in general as well as working with animal owners, complainants, and local authorities in animal abuse cases in Champaign County. When it is needed, she also works with the medical team and the animal behavior team at the shelter.
This year, April plans to apply to veterinary school to eventually become specialized in shelter medicine. The decision to apply to veterinary school came after completing a degree in animal sciences with a concentration in pre-veterinary studies and participating in an internship through the Champaign County Humane Society. If there was one thing that she could change about her years as an undergraduate, April says that she would become more involved with clubs and student organizations on campus, as this is the only chance students have to be this involved in a wide variety of activities.
